Clark University Rapid Response

Our Responders & Executive Board

All CURR responders are trained as either CFRs (Certified First Responders) or EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians). CURR carries an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), wound treatment supplies, splinting equipment, and more. Our responders train continuously throughout the school year to remain competent with our skills and to learn new and improved emergency medical techniques.

CURR is overseen by a five-member executive board comprised of undergraduate students. University Police Detective Evan Gaylord serves as our faculty advisor. We also maintain a close relationship with MedStar Ambulance, Clark University Health Services, and our medical director.

Be aware that as a first response service, CURR must remain within its state-sanctioned scope of practice, and as such, may not dispense painkillers, cold medications or other non-EMS drugs. CURR recommends students keep their own personal supply of over the counter medications and basic first aid supplies.

What to Expect When You Call

In case of emergency, call University Police at 508-793-7575 to request CURR as calling 911 will result in a longer response time.

Do not hesitate to call us if you need emergency medical attention. If you are unsure whether or not to call CURR, call. Do not let the use of drugs or alcohol influence your decision NOT to call us.

When you call University Police, the dispatcher will ask for your location, name, and the reason for your call. Please remain calm and answer the dispatcher’s questions as accurately as possible. Stay on the phone with the dispatcher and do not hang up until instructed to do so.

What to Expect When You Call

Each crew is comprised of 3 or 4 responders who will often respond separately. Depending on the nature of the call, an ambulance may be dispatched simultaneously with CURR.

* If the nature of the call is deemed an emergency, University Police Officers will also be dispatched. The responding Officers are there to ensure the safety of every person at the scene and will often be in the background or waiting outside to meet the ambulance. They are not there to get you into trouble.

Upon arriving, our responders will ask you about what prompted you to call for assistance and for personal information, such as your name and date of birth, as well as information about any medications you take.

If you decide you would like further treatment at a local hospital, CURR will arrange for your transport via MedStar Ambulance or Red Cab. We recommend patients seek treatment at UMass Memorial Medical Center (Memorial Campus or University Campus).

To return back to campus, simply call University Police at 508-793-7575 and Red Cab will be dispatched to provide you transportation back to campus.

Event Standby Services

CURR provides standby coverage at both small and large events at Clark University. Student organizations that require Rapid Response coverage at an event can request a standby through the Event Registration Form.

Join Us

CURR accepts new members at the start of each fall semester. CPR & CFR training is offered to applicants in the fall, and an EMT course is offered in the spring.
